The pruningThe master of pruners has been Nanni Gori, second-last head of a family who from at least ten generations, before as sharecroppers, live at the Caselle, one of the farm houses of Castellare.
For his shrewdness and skill , Nanni has benne the first cellarman of the modern wine adventure of Castellare.
Great pruner not only of vines but also of the olive trees. He, who as a sharecropper used to favour the quantity, in the mixed farming of the vine, had easily become the master of pruning to obtain just quality, that is very small quantities. A cultural reassessment that for many people would have been very hard for not to say impossible, was very easy for Nanni, passing from the Guyot to the spur pruned cord system and leaving not more than 10 buds for each stub.
And his care of cutting anything that could stress the vine, who on the contrary has to give all she sucks from the ground to a few and thin bunches.
Nanni has passed the witness since a few years, before leaving us, to his son Riccardo, who, specialized electrotechnical in the production of electric motor prototype, willingly left the factory to go back to the fields.
And Riccardo Gori, together with Romano Tatini (of the same old tradition as Nanni), is at the same time the leader and the master of pruning.
An art which leaves the cut vine-branches on the ground. But is also part of the pruning art picking them up to make faggots for the fireplaces and the hearths.
