Foremost among them is the Castellare di Castellina Toscana I Sodi di San Niccol\u00f2 2017: the 40th anniversary of this iconic red, which matches the quality of the superb 2016, evoking bright cherry, blackberry and violet flavors defined by lively acidity and finesse&#8221;<\/em>. <br><br>\r\n \r\n <a href=\"https:\/\/www.castellare.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Alessandra-Cellai-su-WS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.castellare.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Alessandra-Cellai-su-WS-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"Alessandra Cellai su WS\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10186\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.castellare.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Alessandra-Cellai-su-WS-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.castellare.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Alessandra-Cellai-su-WS.jpg 541w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><em>\u201cI can tell you that it was a real challenge<\/em> &#8211; explained to Wine Spectator <strong>Alessandro Cellai<\/strong>, oenologist at Castellare di Castellina &#8211; <em>because the temperatures were very high, especially in the months of July and August. To protect the grapes from the sun we maintained the leaf canopy and we performed the green harvest two weeks earlier than normal to reduce the vine\u2019s need for water. In this way, together with the fact that we are 400 meters above sea level and with 150 mm of rain falling on 5 and 6 September, we were able to lengthen the vegetative cycle as much as possible and harvest at the beginning of October, with a good acidity level&#8221;<\/em>.<br><br>\r\n\r\nTherefore Castellare di Castellina\u2019s flagship wine, blend of Sangioveto and black Malvasia, twice awarded Best Italian Red Wine by adding the scores of the five Italian guides and the four most authoritative international wine critics, obtains another important accolade.<br><br>\r\n<em>\u201cWine Spectator amazing review<\/em> &#8211; says <strong>Paolo Panerai<\/strong>, founder of Castellare di Castellina \u2013 <em>is so important for us for two reasons: because it is attributed to a particularly difficult vintage and because it rewards the 40 harvests of I Sodi di S. Niccol\u00f2.
