I SODI DI S. NICCOLÒ CELEBRATES 45 HARVESTS
The new vintage of Castellare’s Super Tuscan celebrates this special anniversary with an elegant black label.A black label featuring the iconic little bird celebrates the 45 harvests of I Sodi di S. Niccolò. With the 2022 vintage, Castellare di Castellina’s Super Tuscan marks a special anniversary with an elegant new look, worthy of the finest occasions. At the forefront is the new bird, which changes every year as a tribute to endangered species. This time, it is the European stonechat (Saxicola torquatus), a brightly coloured bird often spotted among the vineyards of Castellare.
The 2022 vintage, which has already received a score of 96/100 from Decanter and 95/100 from James Suckling, is particularly pleasant and crisp in the glass, with a long, persistent finish.
“I Sodi di S. Niccolò 2022 stands out for its great aromatic intensity and a dense, elegant structure, with soft, silky tannins. The acidity of the Sangioveto gives the wine remarkable freshness. It is ready to drink, while also being suited to long ageing,” says winemaker Alessandro Cellai.
Created in 1977, I Sodi di S. Niccolò was the fourth Super Tuscan in Italy and is now part of the Historical Supertuscans Association. Made from Sangioveto (85%) and Malvasia Nera (15%), over the years it has earned numerous awards, securing a place three times in Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines of the world and making its debut, with the 2020 vintage, in the first global Top 100 by Vinous by Antonio Galloni. These accolades pay tribute to the vision and expertise of Alessandro Cellai, winemaker of the Domini Castellare di Castellina group.
