I SODI DI S. NICCOLO’ CELEBRATES 45 HARVEST

The new vintage of Castellare’s Super Tuscan marks this special anniversary with an elegant black label.

A black label featuring the iconic little bird celebrates the 45th harvest of I Sodi di S. Niccolò. With the 2022 vintage, the Super Tuscan from Castellare di Castellina commemorates a special milestone with an elegant new look worthy of the finest occasions. Taking center stage is the new bird illustration, which changes every year as a tribute to endangered species. This time, it is the European Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus), a brightly colored bird often spotted among the vineyards of Castellare.

The 2022 vintage, which has already received 96/100 points from Decanter and 95/100 from James Suckling, is particularly enjoyable and vibrant in the glass, with a long and persistent finish. “I Sodi di S. Niccolò 2022 stands out for its remarkable aromatic intensity and its dense yet elegant structure, with soft, silky tannins. The acidity of the Sangioveto grape gives the wine exceptional freshness. It is ready to drink now while also being suitable for long aging,” emphasizes winemaker Alessandro Cellai

Created in 1977, I Sodi di S. Niccolò was the fourth Super Tuscan wine in Italy and is now part of the Historical Supertuscans Association. Made from Sangioveto (85%) and Malvasia Nera (15%), the wine has earned numerous accolades over the years, securing a place three times in the Top 100 List by Wine Spectator and debuting with the 2020 vintage in the first global Top 100 by Vinous by Antonio Galloni. These recognitions pay tribute to the vision and expertise of Alessandro Cellai, winemaker for the Domini Castellare di Castellina group.

The 2022 Harvest The 2022 growing season was marked by a hot and dry climate, with good spring water reserves followed by an arid summer and high temperatures. However, rainfall at the end of August favored grape ripening, allowing for an early yet balanced harvest with healthy and well-concentrated grapes. The wines from this vintage display an intense color, with mature and refined aromatic profiles featuring notes of red fruit and floral hints, accompanied by delicate spicy nuances. On the palate, they express good structure, ripe and well-integrated tannins, supported by a freshness that ensures balance and excellent aging potential.
